Overview

This Manufacturing Insights report presents the findings of a sustainability survey of 221 U.S. manufacturers. This survey reminds us that many are just getting started in greening their products and processes. A majority of manufacturers expect IT to play a role in going green, and Manufacturing Insights maintains that IT applications and tools can be a much-needed foundation for sustainability as a transformation process, much like a lean or Six Sigma initiative.

"Our 2009 sustainability prediction emphasizes that the gap between leaders and followers will widen, and the growing use of numbers to define a company's sustainability progress is going to make that gap visible inside and outside the company," says Kimberly Knickle, practice director at Manufacturing Insights.
