Overview

This IDC Manufacturing Insights report offers a series of short analyses of independent software vendors that chief information officers in the technology-oriented value chain (TOVC) segments should be aware of. TOVCs have a physical flow of goods dictated by the ongoing iterating cycles of key underlying technology, such as processors, and include segments such as semiconductors, electronic manufacturing services, high-tech equipment, and consumer electronics. These value chains have high levels of variability in supply, manufacturing, and demand. The economic situation will have a marked impact on companies and how they allocate IT dollars.

"TOVC segments represent industry segments that are dealing with a rapid cadence of product iterations, geographic expansion, and elevated competition. Tactical IT investment will help fortify companies for the challenges they face," said Ben Friedman, research manager at IDC Manufacturing Insights.
